The third trailer for MAPPA's Chainsaw Man adaptation gives fans of the manga everything they've come to expect, with a healthy dose of angst, followed by a solid 30 seconds of absolute mayhem. If that weren't enough, the footage also confirms the October window for the anime's release on Crunchyroll.

The long-awaited adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's frenetic manga series about Denji, an impoverished teen who makes a contract with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. As a result, he fuses with the dog-like devil, giving Denji the ability to transform his body parts into chainsaws.

What does one do with such a distinctive, and alarmingly bloody, new ability? If you're Denji, you eventually join the Public Safety Devil Hunters, a government agency devoted to fighting Devils -- beings created from human fears.

Debuting in December 2018 in Weekly Shonen Jump, Fujimoto's manga -- a blend of action, comedy and horror -- has been collected into 11 volumes. More than 15 million copies have been sold worldwide. The original series ended in December 2020, only for Chainsaw Man to return in July 2022 for a second part, this time on Shueisha's digital Shonen Jump+.

Along with its commercial success, Chainsaw Man as earned widespread critical praise. In 2020, the series won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shonen category. In addition to the upcoming anime, the manga has inspired a 2021 novel, Chainsaw Man: Buddy Stories, a line of Nendoroid figures from Good Smile Company, and the "Chainsaw Man Manga Exhibition," held in 2021 in Shibuya, Tokyo.
