Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto's latest one-shot manga will premiere on the online Shonen Jump+ service and app on July 19.
According to Weekly Shonen Jump news, Fujimoto's latest work is a standalone story called Look Back. The "one-shot manga" (a manga that features a single standalone narrative rather than telling its story through an on-going series,) will be 140 pages long and is described as a "large feature film." This will be the tenth one-shot manga by Fujimoto, who is best known as the creator of the dark and violent Chainsaw Man manga series.
Chainsaw Man has been one of the biggest hits to emerge from Weekly Shonen Jump in recent years, with over 11 million copies in circulation. Retailers have reported that they are having difficulty keeping the manga in stock. The series takes place in an alternate timeline's version of 1997, where the Soviet Union still exists and humans coexist with devils. The story focuses on Denji, a young man who merges with the chainsaw devil Pochita to become the titular Chainsaw Man. Denji eventually starts working as a Devil Hunter, and is tasked with defeating the Gun Devil, a devil responsible for the worst massacre in human history.
The manga is currently being adapted into an anime by Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen's animation studio MAPPA. The first trailer for the show was recently released at MAPPA's tenth anniversary event. The series will be directed by Ryu Nakayama, who previously worked on shows such as Naruto: Shippuden, One-Punch Man, Kill La Kill and Macross Delta. The anime series currently has no announced release date.
