CCI | Warner Bros. Drafts Sci-Fi Fantasy Comic The Red Star

Warner Bros. is in talks to pick up Christian Gossett's Soviet-themed military fantasy The Red Star, which had been in development at Universal as a vehicle for Timur Bekmambetov.

Heat Vision reports that Neal Moritz is attached to produce under his Original Films banner, along with Jason Netter of Kickstart Productions.

Debuting in 1999, the lavishly produced comic combines 2D and 3D art to tell a story set in an alternate, even mythical, Soviet Union where futuristic technology and sorcery meet, gigantic flying warships fill the skies and the United Republics of the Red Star is embroiled in a war with Al'Istaan (a stand-in for Afghanistan). The first volume centers on Marcus Antares, an infantry platoon leader in the Red Fleet, and his wife Maya Vlasova, a sorceress-major, who become the keys to defeating a brutal enemy.

The Red Star was previously developed by Acclaim Studios as a video game and by Green Ronin as a role-playing game.
