"ER" alum Anthony Edwards will co-star in CBS's contemporary drama based on the "Nancy Drew" mystery novels.

Titled simply "Drew," the pilot will center on a 30-year-old Nancy, now a detective with the New York City Police Department who solves crimes with her remarkable observational skills.

According to Deadline, Edwards will play Nancy's father Carson, who graduated at the top of his class at Yale Law School.

Although the starring role of Nancy hasn't been cast, CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller said last month that the character won't be white. Whether she'll be African-American, Asian-American or Latino will depend on finding the right actress.

Hailing from CBS Television Studios, "Drew" was written by “Grey’s Anatomy” veterans Joan Rater and Tony Phelan.
