It's that time of the year again. Summer is fast approaching, which means that many TV series are wrapping up their seasons. It's a bittersweet time for television fans because season finales always promise something suspenseful, impactful or game-changing. However, a season finale (by definition) means that there won't be any new episodes until the fall. That's exactly what's happening with two of CBS' biggest shows: NCIS and FBI.

Over the years, NCIS and FBI two have become staples on the police procedural front. They both command faithful audiences that tune in week in and week out to see what complicated cases the crime-fighters are solving in each episode. Unfortunately, there are only a few episodes left in 2021-2022 season, but each series has already revealed some details about its finale -- and both of them look to super important episodes. So, here's a look at when and how NCIS and FBI will wrap up their seasons.

Katrina Law Says NCIS' Season 19 Finale Will Have A "Big, Huge Surprise Ending"

Parker (played by Gary Cole) and Knight (Katrina Law) stand in the NCIS office

Season 19 of NCIS was all about turnover. With Agents Gibbs, Bishop and Sloane leaving the series, NCIS introduced Gary Cole as Alden Parker, and Katrina Law as Jessica Knight. Overall, their integrations went really well, as they've been able to mesh with the cast. Each week, we've learned a bit more about them, and the season finale promises to continue that trend.

When the Season 19 finale airs on May 23, fans will see Parker framed for murder. During the episode, his ex-wife and close friend Vivian Kolchak (played by The Fosters alum Teri Polo) will make an appearance. Kolchak will play an FBI agent turned paranormal investigator and recurr going forward.

There were also a number of interesting things that Executive Producer Steven D. Binder revealed in an interview with TV Insider. He promised that "Gibbs energy" would permeate the episode; he said that Ducky would be making an appearance, and he hinted that Palmer and Knight would have "a moment." However, the most important piece of information came from actor Katrina Law. In an interview with Digital Spy, she said that she had a stunt double for the finale, and she promised that the episode would have a "big, huge surprise ending." Law didn't give any further details, so fans will eagerly anticipate whatever surprises NCIS throws their way.

Showrunner Rick Eid Calls FBI's Season 4 Finale "Really Intense, Really Emotional, Really Suspenseful"

FBI Jubal and His Son

On FBI everything is about Maggie Bell. In the real world, Missy Peregrym (who plays Maggie) was temporarily written off due to her pregnancy. In-universe, though, she was exposed to Sarin gas, which necessitated an extended recovery time. The whole team had a difficult time with her near-death experience, but OA (Zeeko Zaki) had a particularly rough time.

The thing is, the theme of loss has been prevalent throughout the season. Special Agent Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) lost his girlfriend, Rina, and Isobel (Alana De La Garza) has been greatly affected by Jess LaCroix dying on FBI: Most Wanted. In an interview with TV Insider, showrunner Rick Eid said that tackling loss wasn't the goal for the season, but it has become a prevalent theme regardless of intentions.

During the same interview, Eid teased FBI's Season 4 finale, which will air on May 24. He said that "the finale is a pretty powerful episode as well. It involves Jubal and his son, and it’s really intense, really emotional, really suspenseful." At first glance that looks like Tyler (who has leukemia) could be in for a rough episode. Hopefully, FBI doesn't decide to kill him off because losing Rina and Tyler in the same season would be awful for Jubal. Either way, it looks like the finale will be pulling at everyone's heart strings.

NCIS and FBI have both been renewed by CBS, so fans don't have to worry about the season finales being the last episodes for each series. The finales will air on May 23 (NCIS) and May 24 (FBI) at 9 PM ET and 8 PM ET, respectively.
