The CBR Reviews team was certainly busy this past week. Since last Sunday the team has reviewed 17 books, ranging from the most mainstream of mainstream titles, to independent and manga releases. Here’s a quick look at some of their most highly regarded reads.
While no single book was granted the coveted 5 star rating, four books were good enough to receive 4.5 stars. First up was James Hunt’s review of “Ultimate Spider-Man Annual” #3 this past Monday, which James said is, “Definitely worth a look, whether you read ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ or not.”
Moving on to books that all saw release this past Wednesday, Doug Zawisa liked what he saw in the debut issue of Rick Remender and Eric Nguyen’s “Gigantic.” “This is easily one of the strongest debut issues I’ve read in quite some time,” Doug said. “The concept is delivered, the settings are presented and the action gets moving “
The third book to receive 4.5 stars was “Sandman: The Dream Hunters” #1 by Neil Gaiman and P. Craig Russell, which led reviewer Greg McElhatton to say “Russell’s art is so beautiful that it’s hard to believe you’re not looking at a piece of classical art.”
The fourth book to receive 4.5 stars this past week is Kevin Colden’s “Fishtown,” which CBR Reviewer Timothy Callahan said is,“ one of the most impressive books of the year” and “its story will haunt you long after you close the covers.”
