When Pitof's Catwoman was released in 2004, it was universally panned by critics and received seven Golden Raspberry Award nominations, including one for Worst Actress. Halle Berry, who played the titular character, showed up to accept her award in person, a choice she discussed in a recent interview.

"Well, I went to the Razzie because, you know, I feel like we all take ourselves so seriously. If we get an award, if we get the Oscar, we somehow are made to feel like we're somehow better than everybody else, but we're really not," Berry told Vanity Fair. "You know, you were just chosen that year by your peers and you were acknowledged for doing what they considered stellar work, but are you better than the next person who didn't get that award? No, not at all. So, if you find yourself face-to-face with a Razzie, does that mean you're the worst actor there ever was? Probably not. You just got the piss taken out on you that year by a group of people that can. "

She continued by explaining that the point was to avoid taking herself too seriously. "If I can show up to collect an Oscar when you're honoring me, I can certainly show up to collect a Razzie when you say, Good try, but do better," she said. "I always learned that if you can't be a good loser, then you don't deserve to be a good winner."

The Razzies were created by UCLA graduates and film industry veterans John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy as a parody award show that honors the worst of cinematic underachievement. The first ceremony was held in Wilson's living room on March 31, 1981, and the awards have been ongoing ever since. Currently, Sylvester Stallone and Madonna hold the records for most acting Razzies.

Alongside winning Worst Actress, Catwoman also won several other Razzies, including Worst Picture, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. Moreover, it took home awards for the Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Supporting Actress and Least "Special" Special Effects categories at the Stinkers Bad Movie Awards, another parody award show that recognizes the worst in cinema each year.

However, the film has garnered more positive responses in recent years: Catwoman has become something of a cult classic, with many fans of superhero movies praising the film for its camp and Berry for her performance. The actor has even expressed interest in directing Catwoman remake, should the opportunity arise.
