The following article contains spoilers for Catwoman #54, on sale now from DC.

Selina Kyle creates a makeshift costume out of orange prison wear in Catwoman #54, donning it to do battle with Punchline.

The DIY-style outfit is a wardrobe choice that Selina is forced to make due to her internment in Gotham County Corrections for the suspected murder of her former lover, Valmont. Selina dons the suit as she reveals her secret identity to another inmate named Marquis and prepares for a fight against Punchline, who is entering the prison to settle a score.

Despite its homebrew nature, Catwoman's jail costume still makes her recognizable as Gotham City's finest cat burglar. It also incorporates her iconic weaponry -- Selina uses pins attached to her fingers to emulate her trademark claws, while a tied-together selection of cords acts as her whip.

Selina's Prison Stint

Selina went to prison at the end of Catwoman #50 after she appeared to kill Valmont in an effort to save Batman's life. The altercation took place after a massive battle with Punchline's forces in the midst of Ace Chemicals, and Punchline and Catwoman have harbored a grudge against each other ever since.

Despite her restricted movements in jail, Selina has nevertheless made the most of a difficult situation by allying herself with several other inmates, including rarely-seen villains like Lady Clayface, Scorpiana and Vox. Her alliance with Eiko Hasigawa -- who has taken up the role of Catwoman on Gotham's streets while Selina is locked away -- has allowed her to obtain contraband from the outside world, including foodstuffs and letters from Batman.

Batman and Catwoman's most recent interactions in Catwoman #52 indicated that the Dark Knight was willing to look the other way as Selina became a ringleader for the low-level criminals in Gotham County Corrections. Catwoman #54 ends with Selina escaping from prison, planning to bring her gang of newly-trained accomplices to the outside world, and even bargaining with Punchline -- all factors that might lead to the inevitable confrontation between Batman and Catwoman in DC's upcoming "Showdown" crossover.

Catwoman #54 is written by Tini Howard, illustrated by Nico Leon, colored by Veronica Gandini, lettered by Lucas Gattoni and features a main cover by David Nakayama. Sweeney Boo, Joshua "Sway" Swaby and Rian Gonzales provide variant covers. Catwoman #54 is on sale now from DC.
