The founder of Frederator Studios, the producer of “Adventure Time” and “The Fairly OddParents,” has seemingly confirmed development of an animated series based on the acclaimed “Castlevania” video game franchise.
Appearing on the Nickelodeon Animation podcast, Fred Seibert alluded to an “unnamed” project “based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years.” “[W]e’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started,” he said. “But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going.”
Although Seibert doesn’t mention “Castlevania” by name, his comments match up with an announcement made in August 2015 by producer Adi Shankhar (“Dredd,” “Punisher: Dirty Laundry”) that he’s working with Frederator on a “super violent” adaptation of 1989’s “Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse.” Asked at the time just how much gore and violence the planned miniseries would contain, Shankhar replied, “There will be a lot. The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults.”
A prequel to the original game, “Castlevania III” follows Trevor Belmont, wielder of the Vampire Killer Whip, as he sets out to defeat Dracula with the help of young sorceress Sypha Belnades and Dracula’s son Alucard.
