WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Castlevania Season 4, available now on Netflix.

In a series as battle-focused as Castlevania, the weapons are as important as the fighters themselves. When combating Dracula's undead hordes, a human stands no chance if they go into battle unarmed. Not to mention the better blade is more often than not what gives one vampire the edge. Each weapon combined into a fascinating array of blood-soaked action throughout the series.

Looking over the various weapons used by humans and the undead requires focusing on the weapon itself, not the wielder's deadly abilities. Where magic is involved, those tools can get to be pretty powerful. Whether it's killing those that are already dead or slaying the immortal, these five impossible weapons are downright lethal.

Crimson Sword

Perhaps one of the most visually striking weapons in Castlevania is Carmilla's crimson blade, used in her final battle against Isaac and his endless army of night creatures with deadly efficiency. The red blade not only matches Carmilla's crimson clothing, but also the literal pool of blood it unleashes into the castle around her. The blood grows so voluminous, it cascades around Isaac's ankles as he marches toward her to ace her down.

The blade stands up to Isaac's magical dagger, even when it burns with hot magical energy. To that end, it provides a valuable defense to Carmilla as she fends off the Forgemaster's attacks. The crimson blade may not have any magical powers, but, at the end of the day, all a sword really needs is to be sturdy and strong when in the hands of a lethal fighter. As the vampire queen of a growing empire, Carmilla is just that fighter, though the blade's fate following her loss remains unknown.

Morningstar Whip

Trevor Belmont ready to fight in Castlevania.

While the crimson blade may be visually striking, Trevor Belmont's morningstar whip proves the most iconic. Known as the Vampire Killer in the video games and the highest power up for the whip weapon the player most often uses, the morningstar whip is an integral part of the Castlevania franchise. When Trevor refers to the weapon as a consecrated tool against the armies of darkness, it quickly proves effective, becoming his go-to weapon from that point on.

Infused with holy energy, the whip's tip lights up and ignites any creature of dark magic it comes in contact with, causing them to explode. The explosion is deadly for any surrounding night creatures, and given its ability to instantly one-shot so many foes and greatly damage even the most powerful enemies, it stands as Trevor's best option in ranged combat. If there is any problem with the weapon, it comes from the difficulty in using it in close quarters, where a fight matters most. As such, its real strength is keeping enemies at bay.

Combat Cross

Sypha and Trevor with Combat Cross Castlevania

Filling the exact need that the morningstar whip creates is the combat cross, another iconic weapon from the game that only joins Trevor's arsenal late in the series. Found amidst a treasure hoard and instantly recognized for its legendary status, the combat cross fills a valuable niche for Trevor. It quickly proves his most powerful weapon by dispatching encroaching demons.

Trevor explains that the cross-shape is more practical rather than magical in its effect against vampires. Given vampires' predatorial nature, the sudden appearance of a stark geometric pattern like a cross startles their senses. The combat cross provides a brief moment of disorientation before one of its four blades ends the immortal's life. Not only does it fill the close quarter's gap that Trevor's whip-centric fighting style created, but it even proves capable of working at range when he throws the weapon to slay several monsters at once.

Alucard's Sword

Alucard Castlevania

Of course, when it comes to juggling melee and ranged attacks along with defense, Alucard's magical sword can't be beaten. Although the dhampir plays its abilities close to the chest at Castlevania's start -- using its magical abilities to arm him at a distance -- it ultimately becomes a constant presence at Alucard's side and his most valuable asset in combat.

The sword telekinetically serves every need Alucard has, proving crucial at saving his life even when his limbs are bound with silver. It works just as well for defense, zipping behind him to protect from attacks. Given its ability to outrank other blades, it's one of the greatest weapons in the world of Castlevania. At the very least, it certainly is the most well-rounded.

Forgemaster Dagger

While Isaac doesn't immediately seem like one of Castlevania's deadliest fighters, he displays just how powerful he is when pushing his Forgemaster abilities to their limit in battle. Forgemasters are invaluable resources for their magical ability to reanimate corpses with hellbound souls and convert them into monstrous servants of the Forgemaster's will. That skill crafted Dracula's army, and by extension, threatened the whole of humanity.

Whether it is storming down an evil magician's tower as he commands hundreds of servants or in a battle against Carmilla, the Forgemaster's dagger is an invaluable weapon with no equal in the series. Just like any dagger, it stabs into a foe. However, that enemy rises again to make their slayer even stronger. Isaac is just a human, but with the dagger in his arsenal, he is possibly the strongest character in the series.

Castlevania stars Richard Armitage as Trevor Belmont, Alejandra Reynoso as Sypha Belnades, James Callis as Alucard, Theo James as Hector, Adetokumboh M'Cormack as Isaac, Jaime Murray as Carmilla, Jessica Brown Findlay as Lenore, Bill Nighy as St. Germain, Jason Isaacs as The Judge and Rila Fukushima as Sumi. The entire series is available now on Netflix.
