Castle Rock, Hulu's anthology series drawing heavily from the works of prolific author Stephen King, has announced its main cast for Season 2 and several novels that will play a strong role in the upcoming season.

Lizzy Caplan will portray Annie Wilkes, the infamously deranged fan from King's novel Misery, made iconic by Kathy Bates' performance in the 1990 film of the same name. Caplan will be joined by Tim Robbins as Reginald "Pop" Merrill, the crime lord from the King story The Sun Dog which was set in Castle Rock. Additionally, Garrett Hedlund has been cast as Merrill's nephew, Ace, a town bully who appeared in Needful Things and was portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland in Stand by Me.

"We want to surprise viewers with the ways in which the stories intersect. Just as the places the characters pop up in very unexpected ways throughout the books, that's the kind of anthology that we would like to tell," explained showrunner Dustin Thomason in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "One of the things about the King universe, or multiverse, is that some very strange things can happen when it comes to the ways that the stories unfold, and hopefully there will be surprises along the way in terms of how the anthology works in that way."

The second season is expected to follow the Merrill crime family as they greet an influx of Somalian immigrants with hostility, leading to violence spreading throughout the small town.
