The fate of the critically-acclaimed anthology series Castle Rock has been placed in the uncertain category, according to Hulu's SVP of Scripted Originals Craig Erwich.

Per Deadline, Hulu's content boss made the statement while speaking at a Television Critics Association panel. He spoke to the Stephen King-based series' future, explaining the streaming platform "has not made any further decisions" regarding a Season 3 renewal.

"We have not made any further decisions on Castle Rock, people are still continuing to discover it," Erwich said. "I thought Lizzy Caplan was revelatory in her portrayal of Annie Wilkes, it was a whole new take on the character and it was very brave of her given what Kathy Bates has done [in Misery]."

Castle Rock Season 1 -- starring Andre Holland -- was a hit for Hulu, garnering critical acclaim and numerous award nominations. The series got a quick second season renewal with the Stephen King classic Misery being the basis. Season 2 was met with the same acclaim and enthusiasm as the first season. Even so, it remains uncertain if a third season is in the cards.
