Castle Plans CCI-Inspired Episode, Directed By Jonathan Frakes

It was only a matter of time before the sometimes-geeky ABC series Castle made its way to the convention scene. Sure, the cast -- led by Firefly alum Nathan Fillion -- has been regulars at Comic-Con International for a while now, but in the upcoming fifth season, the characters will find themselves dealing with a murder at a sci-fi convention, TVLine reports.

Series creator Andrew Marlowe teased that the murder leads them into a “world of egotistic celebrities, diehard fans and enough drama for two galaxies.” Adding a deeper connection, Star Trek: The Next Generation's Jonathan Frakes will direct the episode (his second; he previously helmed Season 2's "Kill the Messenger."

Castle returns Monday, Sept. 24 to ABC. The Comic-Con-inspired episode will air sometime this fall.
