As the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to impact the entertainment industry, work on Star Wars: Cassian Andor became one of many productions impacted by the global health crisis.

According to special effects supervisor Neal Scanlan, the planned Disney+ miniseries had launched pre-production six weeks ago in the United Kingdom. It was set to begin principal photography later this year before the pandemic suspended production.

"We were here in the U.K. about to start on a couple of shows ourselves, but they all, unfortunately, got bumped. We just literally started about six weeks ago on the Cassian story until unfortunately the virus hit and we’re now all on lockdown," revealed Scanlan in an interview with ComicBookMovie.com. "So, we’re trying to do the best we can from home."

Originally expected to begin principal photography last year, the production brought on Star Wars: Rogue One screenwriter Tony Gilroy to rewrite the pilot episode this past October. The miniseries is expected to follow Cassian as he joins the Rebel Alliance to take on the Galactic Empire sometime before the events of the 2016 spinoff film.

Helmed by showrunner Stephen Schiff, Star Wars: Cassian Andor stars Diego Luna as the title character and Alan Tudyk as K-2S0. It is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2021.
