Cartoon Network’s Mega Man Animated Series Gets New Name, Synopsis

It’s been quite some time since DHX offered up details on their animated Mega Man series. Thanks to a blurb from the May issue of Licensing Source Book Europe, there’s more concrete information offered on the series, starting with its official title of Mega Man: Fully Charged.

The show will see a robot schoolboy named Aki Light become the titular superhero Mega Man to fight the evil Sgt. Night and save the people of Silicon City. In keeping with the spirit of Mega Man, Night is joined by a team of Robot Masters that Aki will have to fight to protect the city. Along with the cartoon slated to air this fall, there will also be toyline courtesy of Jakks Pacific. Officially, the toys and cartoon are said to show up at this year’s licensing expo from May 22-24. The synopsis is as follows:

“Aki Light is a regular, upbeat, robot schoolboy. He lives in the futuristic world of Silicon City, co-inhabited by robots and humans. But this robot boy has a secret… Deep within his programming lie protocols that can transform him into the powerful hero, Mega Man! When the villainous Sgt. Night and his evil team of Robot Masters emerge with ill-intentions, Mega Man dedicates himself to protecting the citizens of Silicon City.

Equipped with his Mega Buster arm cannon and the ability to absorb the powers of his opponents, he bravely battles the wickedest of villains. In this brand new series inspired by the iconic Mega Man video game, comical, action-packed adventures abound as we follow the journey of Aki Light and his alter-ego, Mega Man, as he strives to balance life as an ordinary robot boy AND an amazing superhero.”

Mega Man: Fully Charged will be based on the classic series of games, and it’s the fifth animated series to be based on the game character. The previous series, Mega Man Star Force, debuted in 2007 and briefly aired on Cartoon Network. Fully Charged will arrive to Cartoon Network later this year.
