Cartoon Books reaches exclusive Book trade ggreement with Diamond

Press Release

Diamond Comic Distributors has announced that it has been granted exclusive U.S. and non-exclusive worldwide rights to distribute Cartoon Books' English-language graphic novels to the bookstore and comics specialty markets.

Founded by acclaimed comics creator Jeff Smith, Cartoon Books is home to Smith's renowned, all-ages series, Bone; hardcover and softcover collections of that property; and related products and spin-off titles such as Rose (by Smith and artist Charles Vess). In the decade since Bone's debut, Smith has garnered some of the comics industry's most prestigious honors around the world, including multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards, establishing him as one of the most respected artists in his field.

"Few independent titles have captured the imaginations of so many readers like Jeff Smith's Bone," said Diamond Vice President of Purchasing Bill Schanes. "With its timeless quality and unforgettable characters, it's an all-ages title that truly does appeal to young and old alike."

"We've had a long and very successful relationship with Diamond over the years," said cartoonist Smith. "We look forward to expanding our relationship into the book market."

Diamond's Sales Team will begin working with bookstores and book wholesalers to place Cartoon Books' products in stores across the country. "With Bone being a 2002 YALSA/American Library Association Book Choice, and Jeff delivering the opening keynote at this year's YALSA/ALA preconference in Atlanta, Cartoon Books' offerings have already found a welcome home in libraries across the nation," Schanes added, "further indicating what we believe will be high levels of consumer interest for these titles in the mainstream bookstore markets."
