A teaser trailer for Amazon Studios’ upcoming series Carnival Row reveals some of the mythical creatures who will be gracing the screen when the series premieres next month. The trailer also goes a long way towards establishing the class dynamics at play in the show’s sprawling city.
This is accomplished through the portrayal of train passengers arriving at one of the city’s stations. As the camera reveals the occupants of each cabin, moving steadily back to the final car, we see humans are at the front, while the faeries, horned people and trolls are remanded to progressively lesser lodging.
This ties in nicely with the premise of the series, which is a fantasy noir-style drama about a Victorian city dealing with a flood of otherworldly immigrants fleeing their war-torn countries. Cara Delevingne’s Vignette Stonemoss and Orlando Bloom’s Rycroft Philostrate will be working to solve a string of unsolved murders against the backdrop of this sudden, uneasy influx.
Carnival Row, starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, David Gyasi, Tamzin Merchant, Andrew Gower, Karla Crome, Artemas Froushan, Carolien Ford, Indira Varma, Jared Harris and SImon McBurnery, premieres on Amazon Prime on Aug. 30.
