WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Carmen Sandiego Season 4, now streaming on Netflix.

Throughout the duration of Netflix's Carmen Sandiego, fans were intrigued if anyone else from the Villains International League of Evil (V.I.L.E.) would defect like the titular character did. Carmen and Shadowsan turned on the sinister society, thwarting their capers so they could return stolen treasures all across the globe.

However, a life of thievery was tempting, so the sadistic operatives under the likes of Maelstrom and Countess Cleo never showed any inclination to follow their ex-teammate. That is until the fourth and final season, when the series redeems one villain, Gray, and he helps save the Crimson Ghost.

After failing a job, Gray has his mind wiped before being sent back as an electrician to Australia. However, last season, Carmen used him for a job, which put Gray on the Agency to Classify and Monitor Evildoers (A.C.M.E.)'s radar, so the crimefighters believed he reverted to his old ways.

Now in Season 4, Gray's memories are back after he's received electroshock therapy via a special helmet. He escapes and phones V.I.L.E., who indoctrinate him again as they need to level the playing field. However, it all changes when Dr. Saira Bellum captures Carmen and brainwashes her, removing Carmen's empathy in order to make her a cutthroat thief again. In the process, the group tricks her into thinking Shadowsan killed her dad so she will seek revenge.

This scares Gray as he cares about Carmen. While he came back of his own volition, he hates seeing Carmen used like a mindless weapon. She's even gone off-mission, conducting dangerous side-jobs, but the organization doesn't care about her safety as long as she continues to bring in a lot of money.

For this reason, Gray returns to A.C.M.E. and informs them about Carmen's next heist to steal the Eye of Vishnu in Morocco, which is where this all began. He's trying to prevent Carmen from murdering Shadowsan, so he becomes an inside man for Carmen's sake.

When Carmen uses Tigress as a decoy, Gray has no choice but to intervene. He takes the helmet and rushes to Carmen's location, ambushing her in an attempt to shock her mind back to normal. Carmen beats him down, realizing he's a traitor, so she sets his stun gun to max and hits him with a supposedly deadly dose.

Luckily, Gray was partially successful, and with Carmen's psyche fractured, Gray sets the stage for Shadowsan to intercept her when Carmen tries to escape. Thankfully, the veteran's able to finish the unscrambling process, and in the aftermath, Gray lives. A.C.M.E. has him under hospital care, as he rigged his device to never power up high enough to kill someone. Chief's grateful for what he did and secretly sets him free, but it's a bittersweet end. He turns down the chance to contact Carmen, as he has to figure out what to do with his life. Plus, he doesn't want to add more drama to hers.

Starring Gina Rodriguez and Finn Wolfhard, all four seasons of Carmen Sandiego are available to stream on Netflix now.
