"Captain Planet" is coming to a computer near you! Entertainment Weekly reports that Cartoon Network will release the full six-season run of the 90’s animated series, which will be available for digital download for the first time ever starting next month.
The series will be available for purchase April 10 from such digital retailers as iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play, Vudu, Playstation Store, and Xbox Store. Individual seasons will retail for $9.99 and $14.99 each, and single episodes will cost $1.99.
First airing back in 1990, “Captain Planet and the Planeteers” -- later known as “The New Adventures of Captain Planet” and “The All New Adventures of Captain Planet” -- told the story of five teenagers from across the globe who were given elemental power rings to combat eco-terrorists. With the aid of the Earth spirit Gaia (Whoopi Goldberg), they would combine their powers and summon the elemental superhero Captain Planet.
When it premiered in the '90s, “Captain Planet” was a success. Making children aware of environmental issues in a friendly manner, “Captain Planet” showed that anyone could help change the world. To this day, the show has maintained a fanbase and remains a pop culture icon.
“Captain Planet” can also be seen on Cartoon Network’s sister network Boomerang.
