Judging by the film's debut trailer, it seems as though one of the key plot points of Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel will be the titular character having something of an identity crisis as she tries to unlock the mystery of where she truly comes from.

With that in mind, it only stands to reason that the woman known as Carol Danvers on Earth is known by a different name to her comrades in the Kree military outfit known as the Starforce. And an official release detailing Funko's upcoming Captain Marvel merchandise may have just revealed what that name is.

Several Funko figures of Captain Marvel are set to be released, with some carrying that name and others referring to her as Carol Danvers. However, there are also several figures that instead refer to the hero as simply "Vers." What's more, the figures that use this name are all ones that feature the character's green and blue Starforce uniform.

Of course, Vers appears to be a shortened version of the surname Danvers. In turn, this detail will likely be vital as Carol attempts to connect the dots regarding who she really is.

In any case, it definitely makes sense for Carol to be using the name Vers during her time with the Starforce. After all, someone called Carol Danvers would probably stick out like a sore thumb if she was running around alongside Kree with names like Mar-Vell and Minn-Erva.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, McKenna Grace and Annette Bening in as-yet-undisclosed roles. The film arrives March 8, 2019.
