The first trailer for Captain Marvel has exceeded the number of online views received by Black Panther and Captain America: Civil War in their first day of release.

Released on Tuesday, the Captain Marvel trailer serves as the first real introduction to Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, the first female superhero to star in a solo film from Marvel Studios. Promising space battles, shape-shifting alien Skrulls, and all of the 1990s nostalgia fans can shake a Furby at, the trailer has been racking up views in record numbers.

Across a handful of social media platforms, the trailer received 109 million views in its first 24 hours of release, leading Marvel to trumpet the achievement in a tweet. That makes Captain Marvel the fourth most-viewed Marvel trailer for the same time frame. For comparison, the trailer for Thor: Ragnorok earned 136 million, the second Avengers: Infinity War trailer earned 179 million; the first Infinity War trailer broke 230 million views.

Captain Marvel earned more views than Black Panther and Captain America: Civil War, which earned 89 million and 95 million views, respectively, in the first 24 hours of release.

Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, stars Brie Larson, Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Gemma Chan, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Clark Gregg and Lashana Lynch. The film is scheduled to be released March 8, 2019.
