After weeks, if not months, of speculation, fans finally have confirmation of the release of an eagerly awaited Marvel Studios trailer -- only it's not for Avengers 4. (Have patience; the most recent indication is that it's arriving on Wednesday.) Instead, the second trailer for Captain Marvel is set to premiere tonight during ESPN's Monday Night Football telecast. But when, exactly?

The kickoff of the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins is 8:15 p.m. ET/5:15 p.m. PT, which leaves a fairly large window for the trailer's premiere. After all, an NFL game can last three hours or more. To narrow that down, let's look to previous trailer debuts on the Disney-owned sports channel.

The first full-length trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi similarly bowed on Monday Night Football in October 2017, following a release of the teaser in April. A trailer-length TV spot announcing ticket preorders for Marvel's Black Panther also debuted on ESPN in January 2018, during coverage of the College Football Playoff National Championship. In each instance the footage arrived at halftime, which only makes sense, as it's difficult to ensure extended commercial breaks during gameplay. In the case of both The Last Jedi and Black Panther, that meant 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Therefore, it certainly seems logical that we can expect the Captain Marvel trailer to arrive at about the same time. That's a little late for an East Coast audience, but still falls into the traditional prime time television window.

Released in September, the first trailer for Captain Marvel teased the arrival on mid-1990s Earth of Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, her fractured memories, an infiltration by the shape-shifting alien Skrulls, and the reintroduction of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, each with a full head of hair. Still months away from the film's March premiere, there remain a lot of questions about Captain Marvel, not the least of which are the true identity of Jude Law's "Starforce commander," and where Carol has been for decades (to say nothing of during Avengers: Infinity War's post-credits scene).

This trailer is unlikely to answer any of those, of course, but it may provide a few clues.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as the commander of Starforce, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, McKenna Grace and Annette Bening in as-yet-undisclosed roles. The film arrives March 8, 2019.
