While Captain Marvel continues to thrill fans around the world, its spacefaring team of Kree warriors, Starforce, nearly appeared much differently than how they do in the final film.
Marvel Studios Senior Development Artist Jackson Sze shared early concept art from the Marvel Cinematic Universe film showing Carol Danvers in her Kree persona as Vers alongside Starforce. While the team has the same color scheme, several of the characters, most notably Minn-Erva and the hulking Bron-Char, look pretty different.
Squad Up! Here is my take on the Starforce team based on an earlier version of @andyparkart Starforce Vers. Fun to put a team together, thinking about their different skills and overall dynamics. #CaptainMarvel #Starforce pic.twitter.com/ST2xFeQ2ra— Jackson Sze (@JacksonSze) March 22, 2019
Sze's designs are based on early concept art by Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park for Vers, with the character sporting her trademark helmet that gives her a mohawk.
In the final version, Minn-Erva and Bron-Char both were redesigned to better resemble their counterparts, with Bron-Char scaled down and wearing full Starforce armor while Minn-Erva was given a matching costume instead of her scavenger look in Sze's initial design, to match her teammates.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Yon-Rogg, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, Algenis Perez Soto as Att-Lass, McKenna Grace as a young Carol Danvers and Annette Bening as the Supreme Intelligence. The movie is in theaters now.
