Marvel Studios released a "special look" at Captain Marvel during tonight's College Football Playoff National Championship.

While previous trailers introduced Brie Larson's high-flying Captain Marvel, this preview mixed intergalactic action with  the more human side of Carol Danvers and her team-up with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury.

In addition to impressive scenes of Captain Marvel single-handedly taking on a spaceship armada, the preview also showed off more footage of the alien Skrulls, including our first look at how their shape-shifting abilities will look on-screen.

The teaser featured a few scenes with Jude Law's leader of the alien Kree Starforce, who might be Yon-Rogg, as he trains Captain Marvel. While Fury's comments about Carol's grunge attire and the sound of Elastica's "Connection" firmly place the film's action in the mid-1990s, Carol also reveals that she refers to her primary abilities as "photon blasts."

In a short behind-the-scenes clip that preceded the actual footage, Larson spoke about her rigorous preparation for the role and said that she felt compelled by Carol's "sense of humor mixed with total capability."

After her solo Marvel Studios film debuts next year, Captain Marvel will join the Avengers in Avengers: Endgame and will likely be a key player in Disney's ongoing plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The footage premiered on the Disney-owned ESPN during tonight's College Football Playoff National Championship game between the Clemson Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as the commander of Starforce, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, McKenna Grace and Annette Bening in as-yet-undisclosed roles. The film arrives on March 8, 2019.
