With Rotten Tomatoes changing the way its site works to lessen the effects of people trying to sabotage movie ratings before the films come out, only critics can leave reviews from advanced screenings until the day of release.

As a result, for at least a few more days, Captain Marvel is fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 89 percent score at the time of this writing. With 73 reviews counted, there are 65 fresh reviews and only eight rotten.

The big praise seems to go to Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. Top critic Richard Roeper called it a "real treat to see Carol Danvers find her footing and her wings, so to speak," while Michael Phillips said that Larson is "more than good enough for this job."

On the flip side, other critics pointed out a rough start before it finds its pace and a "bumpy ride of origin story tropes" that becomes a "supernova" by the end. Possibly the biggest-name critic who wasn't impressed was Todd McCarthy of THR, who called it "mundane."

Once Captain Marvel hits theaters, expect a lot of varied opinions to hit Rotten Tomatoes. While the site worked hard to eliminate what it calls "trolls" trying to sabotage movies for their own reasons, everyone gets their say when the movie hits theaters -- even those who have never seen the film.

In comparison, Wonder Woman has a fresh rating of 93 percent for critics and 88 percent for the audience score, while Black Panther has a 97 percent critic rating and a 79 percent audience score.
