According to actress Lashana Lynch, Carol Danvers' pet cat in Captain Marvel isn't quite what it appears to be.
Lynch, who is playing Air Force pilot Maria Rambeau in the film, revealed that she has a few scenes with Goose isn't strictly what we would call a "cat."
"It's not fully a cat. It's a mysterious cat," Lynch told SyFy Wire. "The cat does things that we didn't expect for it to do, and it's very surprising, and it could happen at random times."

This seems to confirm that Goose will be an alien, like his comic book inspiration Chewie, and that Rambeau will probably find out about its extra-terrestrial origins.
Named Goose, the cat was first introduced on-screen in the second Captain Marvel trailer. While a Hasbro toy release may have spoiled the actual nature of the animal, Lynch's comments all but confirm that Goose, who's name is a subtle Top Gun reference, won't be exactly what he appears.

Although Chewie from the comics appears to be a normal house cat, it's later revealed that he's a member of the alien race known as the Flerken. Capable of laying hundreds of eggs and sprouting fearsome tentacles from her mouth, Chewie has also proven to be a loyal friend and pet to Carol, choosing to stay on Earth with her rather than rejoin her species.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as the commander of Starforce, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, McKenna Grace and Annette Bening in as-yet-undisclosed roles. The film arrives Mar. 8.
