Although the Skrulls seemed to be the villains of Captain Marvel thanks to the movie's marketing putting them in a more insidious light, the shapeshifting aliens turned out to be victims of the movie's real villains, the Kree, and became allies to Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. However, actor Ben Mendelsohn revealed that his character Talos, the fan-favorite lead Skrull, was originally set to die in the film.

While speaking to NME, Mendelsohn revealed that Captain Marvel's original script killed off his character. "That truly exceeded my expectations," he said. "[Talos] was gonna die at around page 60 [in the script] originally and he survived that, so he's done pretty well. And if that fucking shapeshifter rears his ugly head again, I'll do my best to be inside it."

Of course, as Mendelsohn explained, Talos ultimately survived the theatrical version of Captain Marvel, with the character later going on to appear in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Said scene revealed that Talos and his wife Soren were posing as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Maria Hill throughout the movie, with the real Fury being on a journey through space alongside multiple Skrulls.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Clark Gregg, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Gemma Chan, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch and Algenis Perez Soto, with Annette Bening as the Supreme Intelligence. The film is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD and is streaming on Disney+.
