A new report claims Marvel Studios is preparing to make Brie Larson's Captain Marvel the new face and leader of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Avengers 4.

MCU Cosmic has details regarding Disney’s presentation at CineEurope 2018 in Barcelona yesterday, which included an interview with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige for Avengers 4 and footage of Captain Marvel. The reel introducing those in attendance to the next addition to the MCU reportedly included a mention to Captain Marvel becoming "the new face and leader of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

With MCU veterans Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth reaching the end of their contracts with Avengers 4, the prevailing belief is the film will look to phase many of the original cast members out in favor of newer heroes like Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther and of course, Captain Marvel.

If that were to happen, the MCU would need someone to step into the leadership role currently occupied by Tony Stark's Iron Man, who helped launch the MCU with his first solo film in 2008.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, McKenna Grace and Annette Bening in as-yet-undisclosed roles. The film arrives March 8, 2019.
