At Comic-Con International in San Diego's Marvel Studios panel, new significant details emerged surrounding the Captain Marvel movie starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson.

At the panel, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige showed off the character design of Larson in costume — which looks very similar to the Jamie McKelvie design — and revealed that in the movie, Nick Fury will indeed appear, but he’ll have two eyes, as it's set in the early 1990s. Also, the villains of the film will be the Skrulls, in their first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance.

There isn’t much currently known about the plot of Captain Marvel, beyond the details revealed at the panel. In an interview last May, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige suggested that the story would explore Danvers, not her powers; Feige also confirmed that it would be an origin story. In the comics, Danvers has served as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and worked with Fury, so there’s certainly a precedent there for a relationship between the two.

Jackson first appeared as Fury in the end credit scene for 2008’s Iron Man. He’s played the role in seven different movies and is slated to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and its currently untitled sequel. Jackson previously worked with Larson on the film Kong: Skull Island.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Fantastic Four #2, the Skrulls are a nefarious shape-shifting alien species that famously went into conflict with the Kree species in the Avengers storyline The Kree/Skrull War. They would go on to invade Earth and pose as superheroes in the Marvel Comics event series Secret Invasion, in which they unleashed a full-on assault on planet Earth.

Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck with a script by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve. The film will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 8, 2019.
