In a new still from the upcoming Marvel Studios film Captain Marvel, Brie Larson's Carol Danvers to reunite with Lashana Lynch's Maria Rambeau, her old friend and fellow Air Force pilot.

Set in 1995, the film tells the story of Carol, a human member of the alien Kree Starforce, as she returns to Earth, where she'll try to prevent an intergalactic war between the Kree and the shapeshifting alien Skrulls. While trying to keep her homeworld from being overtaken by war, she's also uncover the details about her past and her previous identity which she can barely remember.

This image, which was first posted on Facebook, shows a casually dressed Danvers standing next to Maria Rambeau. Rambeau has been described as one of Danvers' oldest friends and an Air Force pilot who is also a single mother with a daughter named Monica.

In the movie, Maria's Air Force call-sign is "Photon," which references one of Monica's most famous superhero code names.

In comics, Monica became the second Marvel characters to adopt the Captain Marvel title, and she has the power to transform herself into any form of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum. She worked with the Avengers for most of the 1980s and eventually adopted other superhero identities such as Photon and Pulsar before settling on her current codename, Spectrum.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau. The film arrives March 8, 2019.
