In one of the biggest mysteries leading up to the release of Captain Marvel, the identity of Jude Law's character from the film has finally been confirmed. Thanks to Marvel, we now know that Law is, in fact, playing Yon-Rogg.There was evidence last month that Law was Yon-Rogg and not Mar-Vell, as some fans had already speculated. This revelation, however, now begs the question of whether Mar-Vell will play any part in the movie at all, outside of his status as a legendary Kree figure.

In Marvel Comics, Mar-Vell (aka Captain Marvel) was a Kree soldier sent to Earth as a spy. However, while on Earth, he developed a kinship with the citizens and when Yon-Rogg showed hostility, Mar-Vell battled his fellow Kree warrior.

Carol Danvers was caught in the middle of one of their battles and that is how she ended up with her powers. Then, after serving as Ms. Marvel for many years, she took on the name of Captain Marvel as an homage to the hero who held the title before her.

While Yon-Rogg was portrayed as a villain in the comics, there is no word on if he will become a villain in Captain Marvel. Remember, when Green Lantern came out, Sinestro spent the entirety of movie as a member of the Green Lantern Corps, not taking up the yellow ring until the end credits.

Of course, with Carol battling Skrulls, there is always a chance Yon-Rogg won't go full villain until late in the movie -- if at all. Still, considering another member of the Starforce becomes evil when Korath the Pursuer joins forces with the genocidal Ronan the Accuser, it seems Carol is surrounded by some dangerous allies.

The Yon-Rogg revelation also came after Annette Bening admitted on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that she is portraying the Supreme Intelligence in the movie -- the leader of the Kree Empire. Law has also admitted that all the members of the Starforce have their own particular relationship with the Supreme Intelligence.
