Following the news that Brie Larson had been cast as Carol Danvers, three directors were rumored to to direct "Captain Marvel" for Marvel Studios. Unfortunately, that reported shortlist was a bit premature; the studio hadn't officially began to approach directors until December. Now, after almost half a year, it seems that Marvel has locked down an as-yet-unnamed director for the project.

During a visit to Marvel Studios, ScreenJunkies and a handful of other reporters learned that an official announcement regarding the "Captain Marvel" director could take place soon. According to their report, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" director Peyton Reed revealed that a director had been “locked today,” only for executive producer Jeremy Latcham to shush him. You can hear the story for yourself at the 10:24 mark in the video below.

At the time, Reed did not mention any names, so it's unclear who will end up behind the camera for "Captain Marvel." However, San Diego Comic-Con is right around the corner in July, so it's possible that Marvel could make the announcement at their panel in Hall H.

Starring Brie Larson and written by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve, “Captain Marvel” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 8, 2019.
