An official first-look at Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's Captain Marvel reveals Samuel L. Jackson's return as a young Nick Fury.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe last left Fury for dead, meaning fans are unsure how he will return to a post-Avengers: Infinity War franchise. However, whatever his fate in the sequel, a two-eyed version of the character will appear in the '90s-set Captain Marvel, and presumably tie into the cryptic post-credits scene of Infinity War.

In a series of exclusive shots from Entertainment Weekly, Jackson is back for his ninth MCU appearance. While Fury was introduced in 2008's Iron Man as the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., his part in Captain Marvel will see him as a lowly desk jockey working for the extra-governmental military counter-terrorism and intelligence agency.

Fury will get to meet many heroes and villains over his S.H.I.E.L.D. career, but Captain Marvel will be his first taste of superhuman beings. There is a nasty cut on one Fury's eyebrows — teasing he won't be behind a desk for long — but he is missing his signature eyepatch and still had both his eyes.

Although it still Samuel L. Jackson playing Fury in Boden and Fleck's movie, the 69-year-old has been digitally de-aged to play a younger version of the fan-favorite. The MCU is no stranger to altering the ages of its actors as the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas have all undergone the same CGI trickery.
