Carol Danvers may have a thing for spiders. Captain Marvel is known for her incredible powers and her role as one of the leading members of the Avengers, but one plot point that has pursued her for quite some time is her attraction to the Amazing Spider-Man. This never evolves beyond a simple crush and a bit of thirst for the web-head, but still, Carol Danvers is attracted to her fellow superhero.

However, it was recently revealed she has another crush, on another Spider-Man-adjacent character. Over the last year, Danvers has repeatedly flirted with none other than Eddie Brock, more commonly known as Venom.

Along Came a Spider

Carol Danvers' first appearance as Captain Marvel was in Avenging Spider-Man #9 and her first solo series opened with a Spider-Man team-up. Ever since, the two haven't necessarily been the best of friends, but they do work together quite frequently. Carol's lore is surprisingly tied into Peter's history.

During the Siege event, it was revealed that Carol actually has unrequited, romantic feelings toward Spider-Man. In Siege: Spider-Man #1, Spider-Man faces off against Mac Gargan, then in possession of the Venom symbiote. However, just as Venom is about to overpower Spider-Man, Carol Danvers literally rips the Gargan from the symbiote. In retaliation, Venom ensnares Carol in its tendrils for a moment, engulfing her. The symbiote links itself to Carol's mind and uncovers the secret that she harbors strong feelings for Peter Parker.

Being the snitch he is, the symbiote tells Spider-Man about Carol's crush. Peter later confronts Carol about it, who doesn't deny anything the symbiote said. These feelings are re-established later on during her solo title's first issue, where she's punching a boxing bag with Spider-Man as her spotter and appears flustered around him.

So Venom

Carol has no strong feelings for Mac Gargan, but she did seem to foster a second crush on another symbiote host: Eddie Brock. This becomes apparent during the Donny Cates run on Venom, where Venom repeatedly works with the Avengers to confront some of the biggest threats the world faces during that time, including Carnage and Knull.

Also during this time, Eddie Brock grows a beard which Carol definitely notices on multiple occasions. She comments on its appearance, as well as its disappearance when Eddie shaves it off. Her thirst is so apparent that in Venom #25, She-Hulk has to actually tell Carol to calm down.

It's uncertain if Carol is merely attracted to Eddie, or if she's attracted to his Venom side as well. Out of costume, he's admittedly a very burly, bearded man who -- by the time Carol actually gets to know him -- has matured and dropped his grudge against Spider-Man. He's become a true anti-hero protagonist and even a person the Avengers trust enough to possibly embrace as one of their own.
