WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Captain Marvel #30 from Marvel Comics, on sale now.

Carol Danvers' life has been one crisis after another as of late, both for the world and for Carol personally. Right now, the line between them is more blurred than ever. It isn't just that her war against a magical, time traveling despot has driven her to the brink more, but it has also driven her away from the people she loves the most. In the process, this has left Captain Marvel questioning herself on the deepest level and in desperate need of reassurance. Thankfully, Carol at least has an idea of who might be able to help, and the next breakout star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is more than happy to do just that.

When Carol was followed back to her own time by Ove, the villainous future son of Namor and the Enchantress who had become a tyrant in the future, she was left with a serious deficit in powers. Her bid to overcome the mystical threat headed her way has given Carol a fighting chance by stripping Ove of his powers -- though it has also turned the Enchantress against her, effectively putting out one fire just to start another. This, coupled with the weight of knowing that the future she survived and all of the people she came to know in it might never exist should she actually save the day, has put a strain on her that even Captain Marvel isn't sure how to manage. Of course, Carol is in no short supply of allies that she could go to for whatever advice they could offer. She ultimately decides to call upon the young Ms. Marvel since there isn't really anyone else with the particular perspective that Kamala Khan can offer.

Her lack of faith in herself has left her looking for more than just a shoulder to cry on, but a rekindling of what she has seemingly lost. Seeing as how Kamala took up the mantel that she did because of how much she looked up to Carol in the first place, it only makes sense that the young hero is the person Carol turns to. As seen in "Ripples" by Jamie McKelvie and VC's Clayton Cowles from Captain Marvel #30, Carol is absolutely right in her assumption, though maybe not for the reasons she was expecting. When Kamala chose to become Ms. Marvel, it wasn't because of how effortless Carol made it look, nor was it her confidence or resilience in the face of any threat. Rather, it was the ways in which Captain Marvel's heroic actions resonated throughout the communities she touched that inspired Kamala Khan in such meaningful ways. Kamala grew up watching Carol save the world from the ground, which gave her the chance to see the people Carol saved never take their second lease on life for granted. Those who were rescued by Captain Marvel took it upon themselves to become heroes in their own ways, all because of the ripples left behind in Carol Danvers' heroic wake.

By recounting the way Captain Marvel inspired her, Kamala gave Carol exactly what she needed. It also stands as a testament to how deep the impact left behind by heroes such as Captain Marvel is, often while the heroes of the Marvel Universe are oblivious to it. Kamala Khan might be young, but she has already shown a proficiency and understanding for what it means to be a hero. Assuming she keeps this same energy in the transition from the comic book page to the silver screen, Ms. Marvel is well on her way to being the new heart that the MCU so desperately needs right now.
