Carol Danvers has been a household name for Marvel fans since her debut in 1976, but she went by a different name then: Ms. Marvel. Now she goes by the name Captain Marvel and is more mainstream than ever. With her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in her own movie to Avengers: Endgame, she is not going anywhere anytime soon.
From TV shows, movies, and comics she has had a lot of appearances. Carol has had a ton of costumes in the time she has been around. Here are Captain Marvel's 5 Best Costumes and 5 We Can't Stand To Look At.
10 Worst: Original Ms. Marvel
This was Ms. Marvel's debut costume all the way back in 1976. We first saw Carol Danvers as a side character with a male Captain Marvel. In the end, she got her own powers and a hideous costume to go with it.
This costume has a bright red top that looks to be a wide turtle neck. Beyond that, it hardly reaches her mid-riff and instead, she loses half of a shirt. To top this costume off, there is black underwear and what looks to be rubber black gloves. This is not a costume for anybody to be wearing outside the house, let alone saving the world in.
9 Best: The Mighty
The Avengers needed to defeat a group of evildoers known as the Worthy. Captain America took his team to Asgard to retrieve some enchanted weaponry to help defeat these vile creatures. They are not the Avengers anymore, but the Mighty. Captain Marvel, going by Ms. Marvel at the time, picked out an Asgardian ax that helped them in their pursuit to defeat the Worthy.
Her costume still has the essence of her classic black Ms. Marvel costume, but it is now a whole bodysuit with full pants. It still has the classic lightning bolt down the middle, but also down her arms. That, and Carol with an Ax looks pretty awesome on its own.
8 Worst: Ms. Marvel Remastered
Dave Cockrum is the comic book artist that worked on Ms. Marvel's new remastered costume. He thought her debut outfit was awful and completely impractical. He went on to redesign her costume and try to make it better, but keep the same style that it had.
It did not work. The only thing he did was give her a full leotard. The eye mask covers up too much of her face and does not look comfortable at all. The rubber looking gloves and underwear is still just too much for this costume. And the red and black colors do not work for her.
7 Best: Cinematic Universe
Captain Marvel finally has her own movie and with that comes a new costume design. The movie came out in March 2019 before the anticipated release of Avengers: Endgame. This move took place in the 90s, so the costume differs from the one in Endgame. She gets this uniform when she becomes a hero on Earth and finds her identity apart from the Kree.
This costume is amazing. The blue and the dark red uniform really pop on the silver screen. The gold star in the middle of her chest and the gold details throughout the whole uniform is a great color to break the red and blue.
6 Worst: Binary
Carol Danvers and Rogue are at it again. Rogue puts Carol into a coma, causing her to lose all of her abilities. When she wakes up, she joins the Starjammers, a ragtag group of space pirates. While she does not have her normal powers, she is great at hand to hand combat and still has her enhanced Kree strength,
This costume is awful. It seems whenever Carol leaves the universe, she also leaves her fashion sense behind. With a dark ruby suit, giant red leg warmers, and one knee pad, it is truly just an awful costume.
5 Best: WarBird
Carol wakes up in a new universe. Previously, she was left for dead by Rogue, but now she goes by the alias WarBird and she is out for revenge. While trying to kill Rogue, WarBird encounters the Ms. Marvel of this universe. It doesn't go well though as Ms. Marvel dies trying to save Rogue.
WarBird's costume is tactile and utilitarian. It is a black jumpsuit with a silver breastplate. It also comes with elbow pads, shoulder pads, and knee pads; completely ready to defeat anyone in her way. She also used her powers differently in this story by using her photonic abilities to create swords.
4 Worst: Kree Militia Uniform
Carol Danvers has a hold of the Reality Stone. With the stone, she is crossing the borders of reality. In Infinity Countdown, Captain Marvel is getting to know the other versions of herself. There is one Captain Marvel in a Kree uniform that our Captain Marvel contacts for advice on defeating Blastaar.
This is not like the Kree uniform seen in the movie. It is mostly white with green accents. It consists of a green neckpiece that goes to her shoulders, a green belt, gloves, and boots. The colors are not good together. In theory, green and white should go together, but for some reason, it looks lazy and not thought out.
3 Best: Classic Suit
This is Carol's third suit and the one she has worn the longest. While her first two suits were awful to look at, they finally got it right the third time around. This is the one she wore for years and they keep coming back to.
With the all-black leotard and gold lightning bolt, it is a standout costume. The mask fits her face perfectly and the wide eye openings make it look sleek and stylish. To top it off, she wears awesome thigh-high boots and of course, the iconic red sash adorned on her hips. The creators did not go wrong with this extremely awesome uniform.
2 Worst: She-Venom
Of course, Carol has been possessed by Venom. That is what happens to every character in the Marvel comic universe at one point or another. She doesn't revert to her original self until spiderman comes rescues her from the symbiote. They call her She-Venom as the symbiote finally has a girl form.
She basically looks like Venom, but with her signature, Ms. Marvel lightning bolt made of fire running down the middle of the Venom suit. She also has fire for hair and eyes and is buff and has black claws like any other Venom.
1 Best: Captain Marvel
Starring in her own series, she is now officially Captain Marvel as of July 2012. While she was already an iconic character in Marvel comics as Ms. Marvel, she went on to do bigger and bolder things as Captain Marvel. NowMarvel fans also have a new and amazing Ms. Marvel that took her place. When the comic first came out, the costume was plastered everywhere. The comic fans could not go to a comic shop without seeing a poster or comic with the new Captain Marvel on it.
This costume is fit for beating up bad guys in space and on Earth. It is practical and brings back a lot of iconic elements from past suits. From the red sash on her hips to her long gloves and the gold star on her chest, it feels new and classic at the same time. When she enters the frame she means business.
