In the latest trailer for Captain Marvel, Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers comments on the presence of the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on clothing, despite its status as a secret organization, and actor Clark Gregg, also known as Agent Phil Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, agrees with her.The actor, who first appeared in 2008’s Iron Man as an agent for the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Department (aka S.H.I.E.L.D.), posted on Twitter about the comment, which pokes fun at the fictional espionage organization’s penchant for wearing its symbol in public.

A high-ranking member of S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson would appear in both full-length feature films such as Iron Man 2 and Thor, as well as in two Marvel One-shots, The Consultant and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer. He was fatally wounded by the demi-god Loki in Avengers, and his death was used as motivation to unite the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. However, Coulson was revived in the TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., where he and a special team of agents worked to investigate all matter of metahuman affairs, espionage and other strange events in the Marvel Universe.

At one point, Coulson was appointed the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and even assumed the temporary mantle of Ghost Rider. However, it was revealed that the process which had revived him was no more and that he was once again dying. Despite his team’s best efforts, Coulson decided to leave S.H.I.E.L.D. and live out the remainder of his days peacefully enjoying Tahiti.

Gregg will reprise his role as Coulson in Captain Marvel, which is set in 1995 when Coulson is a rookie agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who works closely with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. In the trailer, Coulson asks, " You think you can find others?" most likely asking about other superpowered individuals, to which Fury ominously hints at the future by saying, "She's only the beginning."
