WandaVision's Teyonah Parris added fuel to the fires of fan speculation when she hinted that Captain Marvel 2 explains the tension between Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers.

When asked during an interview if the tension between her character Monica and Captain Marvel that is shown in WandaVision will be explained to audiences "sooner or later," Parris told ET Canada, "As you know, I was announced to be joining the cast of Captain Marvel 2 with Brie Larson and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan." She carefully added, "I do believe that we're going to get more into that relationship and what's going on with those two."

The interviewer paused but Parris remained tight-lipped about any further details to what kind of tension is between the two Marvel Cinematic Universe characters.

In WandaVision's Episode 5, "On a Very Special Episode...," FBI Agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park), Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Rambeau discussed which Avenger could have taken out Thanos single-handedly. While Rambeau is insistent that Wanda almost had it handled herself, the others brought up Carol Danvers' name. The conversation hits an uncomfortable pause, with Darcy making an awkward face towards Jimmy.

While Parris didn't confirm why the tensions are there, or when they started, the two characters will be spending time together again in Captain Marvel 2. At the time of this writing, it's unclear what year the sequel film is set. Avengers: Endgame was set in 2023 and featured Captain Marvel whereas her origin-story film was set in 1995, leaving decades of time for a follow-up film to play with and explore Monica and Carol's relationship dynamics.

Parris previously replied to rumors of Monica becoming the new Captain Marvel in the MCU, noting, "Monica Rambeau has held many monikers over the decades and I think they’ve all been really special in a very particular way." Parris added, "I don’t know how or who she will be in the MCU. Because when I tell you, she changes names and she kicks butt in all of them."

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
