Captain Marvel 2 has added Ms. Marvel and an adult Monica Rambeau to the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel.

The news was announced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige during the Walt Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation. The film will feature Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel after she debuts as the character in a Disney+ series of the same name. Teyonah Parris is also joining the cast as an adult Monica Rambeau -- a character she portrays in the Disney+ series WandaVision. The Monica Rambeau character was first introduced as a child in the 2019 sequel. Captain Marvel 2 will star Brie Larson as she reprises her role of Carol Danvers.

Feige's announcement also revealed the sequel's release date has been pushed back a few months. Previously slated for a July 2022 release, Captain Marvel 2 is now set to open Nov. 11, 2022.

Ms. Marvel will be the first Muslim superhero onscreen for Marvel Studios. The series is expected to arrive on Disney+ in late 2021. Monica Rambeau has been described as a tremendous asset to the WandaVision series, with the show slated to be the first Marvel Studios series to hit Disney+ when it premieres Jan. 15, 2021.

Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Megan McDonnell, Captain Marvel 2 stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. The film arrives in theaters on Nov. 11, 2022.
