A character name from The Marvels implies a connection to another cosmic character: the Silver Surfer.

Actor Colin Stoneley shared his resume on Mandy.com, as spotted by One Take News. One of the roles listed is "Papp-Tonn, a Kree scientist" in The Marvels. The character is one adapted from Marvel lore, albeit a very obscure one. Pap-Tonn (spelled slightly differently than on Stoneley's resume) made a single appearance in 1987 as a scientist experimenting on the Silver Surfer's cosmic board while the Surfer himself was held captive by the Kree's leader, the Supreme Intelligence. Given Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox and reclaiming the film rights to the Fantastic Four and all their supporting cast, this could be a sign of things to come.

Many story and character details about The Marvels are unknown at this time. It's confirmed that new actors joining the Captain Marvel sequel include Zawe Ashton as the primary antagonist and Parasite star Park Seo-joon in an unknown role. Additionally, a since-deleted Instagram story showed what appeared to be Tessa Thompson's headshot among the cast, implying she'll reprise her role as Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame.

The Marvels will feature a team-up between Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau, Agent of S.W.O.R.D. (Teyonah Parris). Director Nia DaCosta discussed balancing the story with three distinct heroes, saying "It’s interesting, and something we thought about and worked through a lot, which was how do we get each of these really big, exciting heroes space in a two-hour film? Captain Marvel has a history from the first film, Kamala will have her Ms. Marvel show, and Monica Rambeau, we’ve only seen her a little bit in WandaVision." DaCosta added that she and the production team had considered "What part of the journey do we need to see for each of them? How do we honor the part of the story they're at in terms of the canon, while also within our story making them equal?"

Larson herself has been eager to hype how wild The Marvels will be. "I can talk about my feelings around it," she said, careful to avoid any spoilers. "I can say that… I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honor it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future. And I could also say that, when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers."

The Marvels lands in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
