The Marvels director Nia DaCosta shed light on how she's balancing the stories of the movie's protagonists, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.

While speaking to Inverse, DaCosta was asked how she was going to allow Monica and Kamala space in a movie centered on Carol. "It’s interesting, and something we thought about and worked through a lot, which was how do we get each of these really big, exciting heroes space in a two-hour film?" DaCosta replied. "Captain Marvel has a history from the first film, Kamala will have her Ms. Marvel show, and Monica Rambeau, we’ve only seen her a little bit in WandaVision."

DaCosta added that a lot of what the production team had been thinking about was "what part of the journey do we need to see for each of them?" "How do we honor the part of the story they're at in terms of the canon, while also within our story making them equal?" she concluded.

The plot of The Marvels is currently unknown, although a rumor claims that Blue Marvel will make his live-action debut. Captain Marvel actor Brie Larson also confirmed in August that filming for the movie had begun, while Monica Rambeau actor Teyonah Parris promised that it would be an epic sequel. "I will tell you that I am in London, I am having an amazing time filming The Marvels and it's gonna be pretty epic," she said. "It's really exciting. I can't wait."

Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels hits theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
