Captain Marvel and The Marvels star Brie Larson is facing Internet ire for promoting NFTs.

Larson recently updated her profile picture on Twitter to an NFT image from Flower Girls, which claims that 20% of its primary and secondary sales profits are donated to various children's charities. However, the overall controversy surrounding non-fungible tokens, including environmental and plagiarism concerns, has fans less than thrilled to see the Carol Danvers actor involved in the crypto trend.

Larson was announced as the star of Captain Marvel in 2016, and the film premiered in theaters three years later, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. She reprised the role in Avengers: Endgame that same year, and the Captain Marvel sequel -- titled The Marvels -- went into development in early 2020, with principal photography kicking off in the summer of 2021.

"It's surreal though," Larson explained after filming on The Marvels began. "I mean when you're doing films like this, they're unlike anything else you know. Huge sets, huge amount of people on set. A lot of specialists, specialty things. It's a really unique experience. I'm a huge fan of Disneyland and so to me, it feels like I get to go my own like, private Disneyland everyday, cause they're building these insane worlds that like, no one else knows about, no one else gets to see... you'll see it when the movie comes out but for now it's just mine."

Notably, Larson initially turned down the role of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. “Oh, I can’t do that. I have too much anxiety," she explained in 2020 while recalling her response to being offered the part. " That’s too much for me. I don’t think I could handle that." When Marvel Studios contacted her again several months later, she said, "I’m too much of an introvert. That’s way too big of a thing for me." After finally agreeing to meet with Marvel, the actor said, "I was very surprised by the way that they were talking about feminism and the way they were handling it."

As for The Marvels, the film will see Larson's Captain Marvel unite with Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. The film arrives in theaters Feb. 17, 2023.
