After tackling the Lord of the Rings movies and Pirates of the Caribbean, actor Orlando Bloom now wants to suit up as Captain Britain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With Kevin Feige promising a more diverse roster of heroes in Phase 4 of the MCU, it could be out with standalone movies focussing on Iron Man or Captain America and in with lesser-known heroes like Captain Britain. While Britain may not be a character that everyone instantly leaps out from the comics, Bloom certainly has the A-list credentials to join the ever-expanding universe of Marvel movies.

Speaking twitho BBC Radio 2, the 41-year-old expressed an interest in being part of the MCU and went on to suggest who he'd like to play. "I do read [Marvel Comics] a little bit," he said before awkwardly mentioning Captain Britain. "Who's the British one? Captain Britain! There you go."

The star's lack of comic book knowledge continued as he explained how he might play the character if he were to get the part and what the movie could entail. "Terrible costume, though," he admitted. "And you've also got Captain America so what you going to do? Captain Britain versus Captain America?"

It is an unlikely storyline to see in theaters, however, the introduction of Britain could help develop the British arm of Marvel comics into its own MCU subfranchise. Just as James Gunn is working on a Cosmic MCU, additions like Captain Britain, the MI: 13 team and maybe even Blade could be on the cards.

First debuting during his own comic from 1976, Captain Britain was granted legendary powers by the magician Merlyn after being involved in a nearly-fatal motorcycle crash. Over the years, Britain has crossed paths with the likes of the X-Men and the Avengers, which makes him a prime candidate for Phase 4.

Bloom isn't the only one interest in playing Brian Braddock though, with Simon Pegg recently putting himself forward for the role. Also, after playing Loki since 2011's Thor, Tom Hiddleston revealed he would be open to playing Captain Britain if Feige was willing to cast him again in the MCU.

Either way, there is a LOT of talk about Captain Britain at the moment. There were once plans for a Captain Britain TV show and Feige has openly said that actors constantly ask about auditioning to play the patriotic hero.

With another 20 movies played beyond the events of Avengers 4, who knows what new characters will join the next chapter of the MCU, but don't be too surprised if Brian Braddock is amongst them. As for who could play the enigmatic Englishman, only time will tell!
