Returning from her time in the Otherworld, Betsy Braddock, also known as Captain Britian, is now being sent off on a brand-new mission in a newly announced limited series from Marvel

Announced during the "Women of Marvel" panel at New York Comic Con on Oct. 9, Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain is a new five-issue miniseries from writer Tini Howard, artist Vasco Georgiev and cover artist Erica D'Urso. Launching in February 2023, the synopsis reads, "THE CAPTAIN COMES HOME! And she’s got a whole new mission! With Otherworld settled, Braddock Manor restored, and her brother Captain Avalon at her side, you’d think things look pretty good for Betsy Braddock. Only it turns out, good ole Britain doesn’t want her back. No one wants a mutant menace carrying the shield of Captain Britain, and Betsy’s made more than a few enemies along her way. Quest-less and country-less, Betsy must define a role for herself. A fresh take on a beloved character, don’t miss the latest Tini Howard extravaganza and fan-favorite artist Vasco Georgiev’s Marvel debut!"

Where Has Betsy Braddock Been?

Throughout most of mutantkind's ongoing Krakoan age, Betsy -- a character created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe who first appeared in 1976's Captain Britain #8 -- has found herself in the Otherworld, a pocket dimension in Marvel Universe filled with dragons, sorcery and more that's also known as Avalon. While her brother, Brian Braddock, was acting as Captain Britain at the time, Betsy found herself returning to the role when Brian became possessed by Morgan Le Fay. Working with King Arthur and Meryln to exterminate all the "furries," also known as mutants, from the Otherworld, Betsy leads a charge against the foes throughout Excalibur, a series which began in 2019.

Following Excalibur, Knights of X continued Braddock's quest through the Otherworld as she and a team of heroes -- including Gambit, King Arthur's son Mordred, Shatterstar, Rictor and more -- to recover the Siege Perilous. While Gambit is seemingly killed by Meryln along the way, he's brought back in the series' final issue, Knights of X #5, and the team succesfully restores a working gate between the Otherworld and Krakoa. Meryln, meanwhile, is seeming executed by Braddock after his forces are defeated in the final issue, though the moment of his death is not actually shown on page.
