Did you know there's a $10 million follow-up to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the works? It's not related to the Disney classic starring Kirk Douglas, but it has just scored Hayley Atwell as a cast member, Deadline reports.
Called The Return of Captain Nemo, this production will be directed by Pearry Teo, who's mainly done low-budget sci-fi and horror flicks.
Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, will be joined by Downtown Abbey's Hugh Bonneville as Captain Nemo and David Morrissey (Red Riding) as her uncle.
The story revolves around President Ulysses S. Grant getting Nemo out of jail so he can figure out what's sinking several ships in the Atlantic. Morrissey's character acts as Grant's chief adviser while Atwell plays a woman named Sara who becomes the film's heroine. The shoot will take place in Romania to save on costs, and most of the action will be filmed on green screen along the lines of 300 or Sin City.
It will be interesting to see what everyone involved can do with a budget that's just about what a larger studio would spend on costumes or decorating one interior set of the Nautilus.
