Ta-Nehisi Coates' and Leinil Yu's Captain America run will introduce a new villain to Marvel Comics.
In a teaser trailer posted Friday, Marvel gave fans a look at what's to come over the next few months for the Star-Spangled Avenger. The new series promises to be an introspective look at the unwavering Captain America and what it means for him to be a symbol of hope.
The trailer offered a glimpse of the action, including a possible team-up with Steve Rogers' oldest friend and partner, Bucky Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier. It also offered a peek at a mysterious new villain, one Cap will almost undoubtedly come to blows with.
Coates' run on Black Panther (drawn by Brian Stelfreeze), one he made a successful geo-political thriller out of, has fans optimistic to see what The New York Times best-selling author has to bring to Captain America. The new creative team debuted in a Free Comic Book Day issue, which gave readers a glimpse at not only Coates' take on Steve Rogers, but Leinil Yu's depiction of the core Marvel character.
The description for Captain America #1 has Cap reeling from the Hydra takeover of the United States in Secret Empire and re-establishing himself as a beacon of hope. There's also the debut of the Power Elite, a mysterious new enemy looking to corrupt the good Captain. Captain America #1 releases on July 4, and Marvel is launching it at midnight.
