Marvel Will Introduce Captain America's Son, Grandson in May

Ever since the conclusion of the divisive miniseries Secret Empire, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee have been making a conscious effort to bring Captain America back to his patriotic and idealistic roots. However, following Samnee’s departure with Issue #700, we’ll discover how Cap’s legacy shapes not just the future of the country, but of his family.

Captain America #701, by Waid, Leonardo Romero, J.G. Jones and Adam Hughes marks the start of an all-new story arc titled “Promised Land.” Taking place in the year 2314, the solicitation teases “the grandson of Steve Rogers lives in the utopian America of which his ancestor dreamed. The legacy of Captain America has been realized — but something sinister lies beneath the surface!” Then, in Issue #702, by Waid, Romero, Howard Chaykin and Chris Sprouse, Jack Rogers’ efforts to rescue his son will ultimately lead him to “into the bowels of the Earth, far from the idyllic surface — and a meeting with the descendant of another notable Marvel hero!”

While it’s unclear who the aforementioned character is a descendant of, it stands within reason to assume it’s someone close to Cap, so Tony Stark, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are all prime suspects. Then again, the fact that the meeting seemingly takes place underground could be a clue that it’s a descendant of Hawkeye, who formed a coalition called the Underground to oppose Hydra Cap’s regime during Secret Empire.

Here are Marvel’s official solicitations for both issues:
