Captain America: New World Order director Julius Onah has revealed when production will commence on the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

In an interview with Collider, the director revealed that filming will start on the fourth Captain America film at the top of 2023. He also shared that they are deep into pre-production on Sam Wilson's first solo outing as the patriotic superhero. "We’re already quite busy, putting everything together," Onah said. "As you know with these films, there are so many elements, between the cast and the script and the effects and the stunts. It’s really exciting to be really diving deep into it."

A fourth Captain America film was revealed to be in development in April 2021 and was officially confirmed by Marvel Studios at San Diego Comic Con 2022 as part of Phase 5 of the MCU. The main cast for New World Order was announced at the D23 Expo 2022, which revealed that Tim Blake Nelson will be reprising his role from 2008's The Incredible Hulk as Samuel Sterns/Leader in the film.

The Leader will serve as the film's antagonist with his involvement continuing a recent Marvel trend of reintroducing characters from The Incredible Hulk in other MCU projects. William Hurt's "Thunderbolt" Ross was the first character from the 2008 film to return, appearing in Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Black Widow (2021). Marvel has also brought back Martin Starr as Roger Harrington in Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy and Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022).

Danny Ramirez Gushes About Becoming the New Falcon

Danny Ramirez's Joaquin Torres will also be returning for New World Order. The character, a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, debuted in the 2021 Disney+ limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The upcoming film will see Torres take over the mantle of the Falcon, which was hinted at in the final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. "I'm excited," Ramirez said on becoming the MCU's new Falcon. "It's walking out there [at D23] and everyone just loves him. To receive that love is just so unique of an experience. From independent to Captain America: New World Order, just walking out and just being called my name by Kevin [Feige] was nuts. It was crazy."
