Actor, director, writer and producer Mollie Fitzgerald, who played "Stark Girl" in Captain America: The First Avenger (seen kissing Howard during the Stark Expo) was deemed not competent to stand trial in the case regarding the murder of her mother.

According to TMZ, Fitzgerald's attorney noted that the trial is on hold after Fitzgerald was sent to a state mental hospital for treatment. A review will be conducted every 90 days to determine if she's once again fit to stand trial.

In December 2019, Fitzgerald was charged in Johnson County District Court with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing her 68-year-old mother Patricia to death. When police discovered the body, there was a knife sticking out of Patricia's back. The younger Fitzgerald claimed her mother came at her with the knife and that she apprehended the weapon and used it on her in self-defense. However, a medical examiner found no evidence that Patricia was ever in possession of the knife. and an autopsy found "defensive injuries." A judge ordered a mental competency evaluation of Fitzgerald in January 2020.

Outside of Captain America, Fitzgerald has had roles in Absurd IllusionsThe Lawful Truth and Trouble Is My Business. She also has four other projects either filming or in pre or post-production, one of which she acts in.
