Recently, Marvel announced the Captain America and Iron Man will reteam to co-star in the upcoming series Captain America/Iron Man, a five-issue miniseries written by Derek Landy and illustrated by Ángel Unzueta. According to the solicit of the first issue, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will team up to face a villain with ties to Hydra, but that villain might not just be anyone.

Indeed, the character they will go toe-to-toe with appears to be someone we've already met in 2020's Falcon and Winter Soldier comic series: Veronica Eden.

The official synopsis of Captain America/Iron Man #1 reads as follows:

"A government agent turned Hydra provocateur stages a daring breakout on her way to prison, attracting the attention of both Iron Man and Captain America. When Steve and Tony realize they both have a connection to the slippery fugitive, they team up to track her down—only to discover she’s not the only player on the board with big plans and sinister motives…"

Now, the solicit doesn't reveal the identity of the miniseries' villain, but there are enough clues here to deduce that this character is, in all likelihood, Veronica Eden.

Veronica Eden is a fairly new addition to the Marvel Universe. The character debuted in 2020's Falcon & Winter Soldier #1 by Derek Landy and Federico Vicentini. In the book, Veronica was first introduced as the Winter Soldier's handler, a government agent working for the Office of Federal Utilities, an undercover organization meant to track and eliminate terrorist training camps. After Bucky's entire O.F.U. team was killed by a new villain called the Natural, he found out that Veronica had survived because she simply hadn't gotten to work that day.

The truth, however, was far more nefarious than that. She was actually secretly working for Hydra, and she planned on becoming the new Hydra Supreme by manipulating the Falcon and Winter Soldier into taking out her competition: Baron Zemo. Zemo intended to keep the organization as it was, but Veronica wanted to transform Hydra into something much bigger, and much more dangerous. However, the two superheroes did the unthinkable: they made a deal with Zemo and together, they took down Veronica and her Hydra goons. As the series came to a close, Veronica was arrested, and Zemo was left in charge of Hydra.

But now, it looks like Veronica is set to return to the Marvel Universe. The solicit for Captain America/Iron Man #1 mentions a "Hydra provocateur" that breaks out of custody while "on her way to prison," which indicates that the new miniseries would likely follow the events of Falcon & Winter Soldier #5. Considering that both series are written by Derek Landy, it would appear the scribe is continuing the saga of Veronica Eden by once again pitting her against a superhero duo.

Veronica Eden quickly set herself apart as an interesting villain. On top of being a dangerous adversary with a very cool Hydra costume, her fall from grace made her a sympathetic figure, and her down-to-earth personality made her quirky and relatable. She proved to be a handful for the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and it took the help of Baron Zemo to stop her. Now, the villain clearly isn't done, and she will face Captain America and Iron Man. But will they be able to defeat her this time, or will it take the help of another villain?

Captain America/Iron Man #1 goes on sale Nov. 24 from Marvel Comics.
